Learning About Media at #ECOO13

Back by popular demand, and with new content, the National Film Board of Canada shows educators how its wealth of media can be used in the classroom to address the expectations in the Ontario Curriculum.

The collection is huge and many find it much easier to use than wading through other video services.

This is still my favourite video from the NFB.  I can’t begin to tell you the number of times that I’ve watched it.

Learning About Media: Using NFB Films and Educational Resources in your Classroom

As leaders in media literacy development – delivering educational workshops in Canada and abroad for over 20 years – representative from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) Education team will provide educators with effective strategies for integrating film titles, interactive projects and media education in their classrooms. This workshop will provide educators with a platform to discuss media literacy concepts while viewing NFB content and accessing educational resources.

We will introduce participants to CAMPUS – the online NFB Education streaming room, featuring 2800+ on-demand classroom-ready films, pedagogical evaluations of NFB films, learning modules and a wide variety of study guides, available in both English in French. Educators will learn how to build a learning module surrounding a film or a thematic collection of films.

Following the session, each educator will know how to build their own learning module, according to their individual curriculum needs. You will also leave inspired by learning about new and emerging media content. Together, we will discuss concepts and questions regarding the production and consumption of media, using one of our newest online learning modules, “Film for Empathy”. We will also discuss opportunities and tactics to engage students to actively work through media production.
