doug — off the record

just a place to share some thoughts

My Week Ending 2023-03-26

And so ends the March Break. I hope that it was a good one for you.

Readings

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog daily under the title OTR Links.

Sunday

  • I think we may all have had this moment in a classroom where you’re going to quit – here’s a video of it actually happening
  • This may not be the definitive solution but it is an interesting connect to kids and colours

Monday

  • This was kind of a fun read. As manufacturers add more and more features to cars, do you use them all?
  • Things not to search for on Google if you plan to commit a crime. Tip #1 – don’t use Google

Tuesday

  • I used to talk about these secret codes all the time. I knew exactly the message when reading my own kids’ report cards
  • It’s great news to think that music is now back in the classroom

Wednesday

Thursday

  • If you’re a lover of Mathematics, then you’ll love the insights of the Golden Ratio in this post
  • The Opera browser beats Safari with ChatGPT integration. No surprise there; Opera is always on the cutting edge

Friday

  • I guess it’s a good time to be a pharmacist – they don’t have to negotiate salary with the conservative government
  • Connecting to the internet makes ChatGPT more relevant and current

Saturday

  • Pros and Cons about edtech for students – are we still asking this question?
  • Sigh. The Sunshine List is out. $100 000 isn’t as impressive as it used to be

Technology Troubleshooting

My wife proofread my blog post this morning but had a complaint.

It wasn’t about her childhood telephone which I kind of thought might generate concern.

It was about the mouse on my computer. It scrolled too quickly.

I showed her how to go into the settings and adjust the speed, like I expect her to do that every time that she uses my computer.

After she left, I forgot to change it back and I’m liking this new speed. I seem to be able to hit the insertion points better and more accurately.

Maybe she’s on to something. Add one to her scoresheet.

Video of the Week

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this video before so I’m going to do this. It’s the cafeteria at Central Huron Secondary School. Why is that important?

This was my cafeteria!

Best fish and chips on Friday ever.

Photo of the Week

I never get tired of this type of image. It’s the sun sinking in the western sky over Boblo Island.

Thanks for reading.

Please join me daily for something new and, hopefully, interesting for you. I honestly and truthfully appreciate your few moments reading my thoughts. Time willing, this summary appears every Sunday afternoon.

Be safe.
