doug — off the record

just a place to share some thoughts

My Week Ending 2023-02-12

It was an interesting blogging week. I enjoy it when my thinking takes me to new places. Plus, I got an interview. What’s not to like?

Readings

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog daily under the title OTR Links.

Sunday

  • This an inspirational post about a lady aged 24 becoming a doctor in Ontario
  • Some hacks for your microphone to save you some money

Monday

  • The first I heard of the terrible earthquake in Syria / Turkey
  • You can never have enough photo editing tools – here are three more to add to your collection

Tuesday

  • I always wanted one of those Japanese school kids packbacks but maybe not once I read this
  • You should never trust a download link if you can’t be sure of the site providing it – wise advice

Wednesday

  • The search cards are down – ChatGPT versus Bard; I just want it to be over with
  • This was an interesting read; we’ve seen all the layoffs in the tech industry – what does it mean for STEM?

Thursday

  • If you’re a user of Vivaldi, the collection of themes is easier to access now
  • Zoom makes layoffs; the tech industry did thrive but now reality is kicking back in

Friday

  • The Kansas City Chiefs are big underdogs for Sunday – now it’s reported many of them are sick
  • It’s going to be a big money item to redo the provincial legislature

Saturday

  • If you’re a teacher, this story will bring you to tears – it did for me
  • What’s the difference between Windows 11 Pro and Home? I have Home and it does everything and way more than I could want

Technology Troubleshooting

I have a troubleshooting situation in progress.

Jaimie and I went for a walk this morning and I listened to a Dr. Hook collection of songs.

We went a little further than normal so I had to dial up something else but nothing would come up on my iPod. After the frustration grew, I looked and everything on my iPod had a grey download area on it like it had been deleted and I needed to download again. That was frustrating.

I finished the walk listening to some streaming content from YouTube and made it a point to sinc my iPod to the laptop with my Music library. I hope it all comes back.

This is totally weird.

Video of the Week

Speaking of YouTube and music, this may be my favourite Dr. Hook / Dennis Locorriere song.

Photo of the Week

When you have a daughter in the business, sometimes surprises pop up when you go out for a Valentine’s Day supper. There is a plug for the restaurant at the bottom.

Thanks for reading.

Please join me daily for something new and, hopefully, interesting for you. I honestly and truthfully appreciate your few moments reading my thoughts. Time willing, this summary appears every Sunday afternoon.

Be safe.
