Yesterday was “A Day to Listen 2023” on radio stations in Canada.
I listened to a bit of it on an online radio station early in the morning and then we took off for the day to take the dog for walks on some of our favourite beaches.
On the way there and back, we were tuned into local stations and they were supporting this initiative. It was a sombre message between songs. Unlike the big rallies and events, this was just an individual or two discussion the issues.
My wife and I actually found ourselves talking about the issues over the music as we were driving along. It was a fairly long drive along Highway 3 and I think we heard most of the guest hosts during out day out. If there was any doubt about the significance of this, check out all of the radio stations that were involved.
When I came back home, I clicked through on the website and it’s a fabulous collections of resources that every teacher should have bookmarked.
The significance of residential schools hits home when you know how close residential schools were to you. My friend Tina shared this image.
The day turned out to have such a powerful impact on us – just by listening.
Please share your thoughts here. I’d enjoy reading them.
