doug — off the record

just a place to share some thoughts

My Week Ending 2023-04-30

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife. Thanks to WordPress, I can schedule this post to appear at the same time we’re out for supper. I’m watching the Toronto game as I type this so excuse the errors. Toronto just scored.

Readings

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog daily under the title OTR Links.

Sunday

  • A heads up that automobile insurance in the province will be changing
  • Of course, you’re being tracked by Google – but through its fonts?

Monday

  • I’m not much of a historian but the Ambassador Bridge has always fascinated me
  • A review of the latest HP Chromebook – it sure looks interesting and far more powerful than mine

Tuesday

  • I would never, ever do this on my marking but I still got a smile reading them anyway
  • This is a very interesting visual analysis of democracy around the world and, of course, you have to consider the author’s lens

Wednesday

  • I’m reading too many of these stories about people getting caught stunt driving – this time in London
  • Things not to do if you want to keep parents on your side

Thursday

  • Big news around here as a ship older than the Titanic is towed down the Detroit River
  • I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that Microsoft Edge phones home with each website you visit

Friday

  • Leafs lose! Leafs lose! And a bunch of them thought they’d move on. I’m watching it Saturday night as I type this
  • There’s a new version of Opera on the way. Get a preview if you’re so inclined

Saturday

voicEd Radio

This Week in Ontario Edublogs is a blog post/show/podcast that features great writing from Ontario Edubloggers. Stephen Hurley and I use their writing as the basis for a conversation.

This week’s voicEd Radio show:

Peace playlist

A playlist of the songs of Peace that we open and close the show with. We’ve done this since the situation in Ukraine started and will continue until it’s over.

Technology Troubleshooting

When I was growing up, our cartoons had adult messages sneaked into them to make watching cartoons with kids somewhat pleasant.

Does anyone remember The Flintstones?

I’m sitting here doing some quality grandparenting and Bubble Guppies is on the television. The kids love it.

I’m still waiting for a Fred and Wilma moment.

Video of the Week

How about this for a guest appearance?

Thanks for reading.

Please join me daily for something new and, hopefully, interesting for you. I honestly and truthfully appreciate your few moments reading my thoughts. Time willing, this summary appears every Sunday afternoon.

Be safe.
