And so it begins

We’ve known for some time that medical offices and hospitals have required masking. That’s a good thing, given the nature of their business and our desire to stay healthy while getting treated for sickness.

As per my morning routine, I’m lying here playing some games and listening to Cool Radio. I can’t believe I’ve plugged them twice this week! The 6:30 news included the story that the Essex County Library will require masking for visitors, starting today. In fact, all Essex County facilities will now require this.

There’s been a lot of talk about the intentions to do this recently. The Ontario Government stopped short of mandating it yesterday although they recommend them. Around here, we’re taking this seriously.

I had thought that things were getting better but now we’re back inside and that’s where the air doesn’t circulate much. I’ve been planning for a couple of weeks now to meet up with a friend for a coffee and he tested positive yesterday. I hope that it passes without incident for him.

Around here, we went and got both the latest updated COVID shot (I’ve lost count – I think it’s five – it’s on my phone somewhere) and the Flu shot.

Even at this date, wearing a mask isn’t second nature here and we have to seriously make an effort to do it although we do have boxes of masks in both vehicles for those times when we are going to be in a public place. I think I mentioned somewhere that we were really in the minority standing in line to vote being masked up.

We have rules and laws that cover all aspects of our lives. Lots of them are really intrusive – why do I have to do the speed limit anyway?

It just seems to me that, as a society, we need to have learned from the previous Covid experience and get vaccinated and masked. That isn’t the common thought everywhere and that just leaves me shaking my head.

Apparently, we can’t count on our government to legislate prevention for this danger – at least at this time.

It’s time for all of us who can read the signs to take charge of our lives and behave appropriately in these settings. For goodness sake, it’s not a huge, onerous task and we did it for a couple of years once we figured out how it spread.

Surely, we’re smart enough to take charge of our own lives.
