My Week Ending 2021-12-19

Here’s a summary of some of the things I learned and published this week.

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog daily under the title OTR Links.

  • The last bit of objectivity in news reporting is leaving Fox News
  • Ubuntu is working on a cloud based OS to compete with Chrome OS

  • The greatest Christmas show ever and how to stream it
  • If you’re in a classroom, you know that you can feel alone and wish that your administrator would do something – here are some suggestions

  • What Ontario truly needs is for a government to come out with one strong set of rules and no exceptions for vaccinations
  • I had to smile when I read about this; I used Google Toolbar years and years ago before better alternatives came along. Now, it’s officially put to rest

  • From a science website, some thoughts about what Omicron will mean as winter approaches
  • I’m more likely to use Google Docs since I work on a couple of different computers during the day. It announces upgrades

  • This is a neat concept – having students created a snowman and facilitated over the internet
  • I think that this move by Microsoft will be well appreciated – right now, things bounce between the Control Panel and Settings – it’s going to end up in Settings

  • We saw it coming and many think that it’s too late but Ontario is now headed back towards stricter rules
  • If you could distribute test kits, would you choose the LCBO? It’s certainly not equitable as shown in this opinion piece

  • Yes, McDonald’s French Fries are absolutely tasty and here’s why
  • Microsoft is also in the certification business and there are a lot of things that you might want to study

Technology Troubleshooting

Sometimes, there’s technology that can only be solved by someone else.

My wife loves her Jeep Renegade but there’s a recurring issue. Built into the computer system is a reminder to the owner that it is time for an oil change. You’d think that resetting that would be part of a routine at the dealership. Yet, we’ve had to do that lots of times.

I’ve done some searching to see if the solution can be done with a combination of things when you’re sitting in the driver’s seat. Lots of suggestions online but none that work.

It appears that only a computer at the dealership will suffice.
