My Week Ending 2021-12-12

Here’s a summary of some of the things I learned and published this week.

Readings

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog daily under the title OTR Links.

Sunday

  • I’m not sure that my wife could put up with me around all the time in a tiny house
  • Formula 1 drivers enjoy the finest things – a comparison of lifestyles between Max and Lewis

Monday

  • David Garlick has written a book about his reflections from being a principal in my former school board
  • Kids do the darnedest things – this time smuggling a pet goldfish to school in a sippy cup

Tuesday

  • Don’t come to the Ontario Parliament if you’re not vaccinated
  • A sweater with your COVID QR code? There was a time when we worried about privacy

Wednesday

  • A report that Windows’ Notepad is getting an upgrade – I didn’t know that people actually used it. Gulp. I guess I’ll have to test it when it comes here
  • I’m more likely to use Google Docs since I work on a couple of different computers during the day. It announces upgrades

Thursday

  • More bad news for schools here in Essex County; more classes are sent home due to COVID infections
  • There’s been a great deal said and reported about this new Pantone colour; I’m not sure that I would ever use it – I’m a green kind of guy

Friday

  • Mickey Dolenz’ throughts about the passing of Michael Nesmith
  • I hate popup ads; I hate the scammers that are behind these things; I hate the fact that it sometimes ends up in sad stories like this

Saturday

  • I agree with this – rectangular smart watches don’t look right. Round ones are bigger, but look more natural
  • You should do good things with technology in schools – this articles shows how to use Mind Maps which I use all the time

Technology Troubleshooting

Technology doesn’t have to be technical is the moral of this although it started out with a technical bent.

After the storm on Friday night / Saturday morning, Jaimie and I were out for a walk and I noticed that the fibre for our internet access had bent out of the eavestrough where it normally is tucked away, out of sight.

After the walk, it was a quick fix. I just grabbed the ladder from the garage and went up and tucked it in, but I did look left and right. All of the remaining leaves seemed to have fallen into there. Maybe that’s why it bent out.

So, it was up and down the ladder picking out soaked leaves and throwing them to the patio and the yard. Raking is in my future.
