My Week Ending 2021-08-15

Here’s a summary of some of the things I learned and published this week.

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week. They’re posted to the blog under the title OTR Links.

  • I learn a great deal from Google Doodles – this time is was Sarla Thukral
  • Funny and yet true – questions that I would ask Jaimie if he would answer them

  • There are places that even Google isn’t allowed to take pictures of and so here are a bunch of them
  • This is how the Ottawa Catholic DSB is upgrading the ventilation in their classrooms

  • This is a superb collection of cartoons that reveal so much about our society these days
  • So much for free speech. It’s sad that they had to take this sign down

  • So much for free speech. It’s sad that they had to take this sign down

  • I loved my cartoons growing up and now I find there are things in there I should have paid attention to!
  • Another list of things that educators should try

  • Field of Dreams was big this week. Of course, it could have been better if the Detroit Tigers had played
  • Just when you think things are going well, the price of gas is poised to jump

  • Get your jab in Chicago or you’re out of a teaching job
  • Some interesting back to school thoughts from some teachers as September looms on the horizon

Technology Troubleshooting

Every Friday morning, I do a shout out to Ontario Educators via #FollowFridays. The first one is scheduled for 4:58 since the blog post comes out at 5:00. I like to keep the two of them together.

So, after the post, I’ll take the list of blog posters, copy it, and paste it into a new message to appear at the time. The list is shown above and should work – right?

It was only after it went live that I realize that Twitter had altered one of the names before scheduling. It was the username for Marc Hodgkinson which got altered. I discovered it later and panicked, going back to the source from the blog post where it remained corrected.

I turned to Twitter and it was there that I saw for my very eyes the name being altered. Tres weird. I’ll have to pay more attention in the future.

So, I deleted the original post, created a new one carefully checking Marc’s name and resent it.

Video of the Week

Big in the news this week is COVID passports.

If you need proof that someone is driving on the school playground, take your dog for a walk in the morning while the grass is still wet.

Thanks for reading.

Please join me daily for something new and, hopefully, interesting for you. I honestly and truthfully appreciate your few moments reading my thoughts. Time willing, this summary appears every Sunday afternoon.

Be safe.
