My Week Ending 2021-01-31

Here’s a summary of some of the things I learned and published this week. How about this? My week ended on the same day as my month ended. I wonder how often that actually happens and this was the first time I noticed it.

You can follow my daily readings as they happen here.  Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week.

  • Google is everywhere so you need to know what you’re leaving online. Even if it’s stolen passwords
  • The closing of this museum in Niagara Falls is one less reason for me to no longer visit the city. Well, there’s always the falls

  • It was sad to read of George Armstrong‘s passing. I remember him and his class so well when I was actually a Maple Leaf’s fan
  • Registration for universities is hurting everywhere. Ontario’s French university is really hurting

  • It looks like Google’s internet bubble has popped
  • Another not-so-good news story as Microsoft continues to add features to its Edge version of the Chromium browser

  • I suspect that a lot of people will like the proposed changes to the Firefox browser. It was looking dated
  • For those who have bird feeders, an audio way to discover who’s who by their chirping

  • If you’re an Android user and looking for a Smart Watch, here are the best by review. I’ll vouch that a watch is a game changer
  • As a kid, I hated jigsaw puzzles but will play one periodically on computer. According to this article, it makes me smarter

  • Of course, all teachers know this but probably just expect that they’re part of the job. Why not share it with the world?
  • Teachers in the state of Michigan will be getting a $500 cheque in the mail for hazard pay

  • Great advice and tips here if you find yourself needing to reset your computing devices
  • There was so much information about GameStop this week. It would be great for discussion in Business Education classes. Here’s an attempt to explain it

Technology Troubleshooting

I’ve been very careful with my bluetooth headset. It goes back into the case every time I’m done with it.

Last week, after This Week in Ontario Edublogs on voicEd Radio, I heard a slight thud which appears to have been something drop on the floor. As I looked to find it, another smaller thud. Then, some sparkly silver things came down and the ear piece felt light in my hand.

As I look, the thuds were from a bolt/nut that held the ear piece in place. The sparkly things, four in total, I’m guessing serve as washers.

But, I’ll put it back together. With my stubby fingers, that was easier said than done. Finally after about a dozen tries I got the bolt and nut together. The sparkly things had fallen out again. Well, I’ll try to assemble without it.

I pulled out my computer fixit kit to look for the screwdriver to finish the task. And, with my luck, it came as no surprise that I didn’t have a hex screwdriver small enough to do it. I managed to get it in place with a small flat screwdriver.

Now, the shiny things are in the case and I guess I’ll leave the headset out and see if my fix works.

With stores closed and us supposed to be staying at home, it’s not the sort of piece that I would like to order online sight unseen.

Video of the Week

Relaxation at its finest.

Photo of the Week

It’s a very cold but calm trip across the Detroit River to Boblo Island via ferry.

Thanks for reading.

Please join me daily for something new and, hopefully, interesting for you. I honestly and truthfully appreciate your few moments reading my thoughts. Time willing, this summary appears every Sunday afternoon.

Be safe.
