Here’s a summary of some of the things I learned and published this week.
Readings
You can follow my daily readings as they happen here. Below are a selected few, with commentary, from the past week.
- I really like this new tab feature in the new Microsoft Edge. I’ve downloaded an extension for other browsers but it’s nice to see it built-in. Same with Firefox.
- This would be a really nice feature. When you open the lid, you should be good to go. Granted, with SSD it’s got better but it’s nice to know that it can be even better.
- I really like to read stories like this. Obviously, I’m not going to drop everything and run and buy it but ever innovation for one generally turns into an innovation for all.
- I was worried that his might have been fake news when I read it. It still might be but I do find it interesting. (and possible)
- Another example of getting along, this time with browsers, and we all are going to be the winner.
- Flipgrid really is popular among teachers so anytime there are ideas for using it, people should stand up and notice.
- From the county where I grew up, imagine creating a garage from blocks of ice!
- I hope that I never become so addictive to my smartphone that I need to do this.
- A somewhat technical read about how browsers can keep you safe. It would be a good read for students who need to know just what’s going on and how things work.
- Libraries have the best design, bar none. I really enjoy pictures and virtual tours of some of the nicest.
- It’s a bad cloud day when your part of the cloud goes down. Google Docs.
- The MacBook is indeed really boring when you compare it to the Microsoft Surface.
- If you’re a student in London and were planning to borrow an access point from the London Public Library to do your online credits, you’re now screwed.
- From a week of dumb stories, this has to be one of the dumbest. Pasta is now a vegetable?
- Teachers should send this home with students for them to work through with their parents. Good advice.
- How to backup your Google Docs — just in case…

We were supposed to broadcast live from the Toronto Convention Centre at the OLA Superconference with a guest host, Diana Maliszewski. Something went wrong – at the time of this writing I don’t know what. I know that I talked with Stephen and Diana for the hour but somehow it didn’t work.

Technology Troubleshooting
Ack!
I was using the Brave browser on my Macintosh as I was writing this post. I sneaked over to the Facebook tab to open a story and the whole browser crashed.
Of course, I hadn’t saved things.
But, thankfully, when I went back in everything was there when the browser reloaded. Phew!
