I woke up in a hotel this morning.  My throat felt like it was on fire.  Sure, it may be the cold that I’m wearing but I always blame it on hotels.  They’re so dry.

But, it had been a good day yesterday.  I made the trip to Niagara Falls without incident except making the mistake of getting off “The Linc” in Hamilton thinking I could shop and then just go around the block and get back on.  Thank you, GPS.  More importantly, I got to my room and was able to brush my teeth.  I had indeed packed my toothbrush; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone somewhere and end up at the hotel store buying an overpriced one because it didn’t make my departing checklist.

I need coffee.  If I was at home, I’d know exactly what to do.  Every hotel does coffee differently; I eventually found it stored in a cupboard.  Carefully, I got it out and to the bathroom sink to get things going.  But, as hotels are famous for doing, it wasn’t intuitive.  First thing in the morning is not the time to read instructions about how to make coffee.  Finally, I got that task done.   It’s never great coffee.

Then, it was time for a shave.  Again, another design issue.  The mirror is so far back with the sink in front of it.  I guess it’s stylish but it’s still a pain.  The water is a different level of hardness for my sensitive skin so I got the job done and worked on getting the bleeding to stop.

I do make the bed; I don’t need clean sheets for a short stay and then look outside.  If you’re an early morning dogwalker, that’s always something to be done although the weather makes no difference to my walking partner.  Being this close to the Falls, in the dark, it’s kind of hard to tell whether it’s rain or just Falls’ spray at this time of the morning.

So, why do I put myself through all this?  It’s time for the Bring IT, Together Conference.  #BIT18.

These people have been working so hard to make another successful event.

And, it will be successful.

When you get the right people together at the right place and at the right time, how could it not?

I’m in anticipation of reuniting and making new friends and connections.  I’m excited for presenting but even more excited about being in the audience and learning.  There’s so much to be learned from these wonderful people.  True technology power users know that you can’t rest on yesterday’s laurels.  You need to be learning and you need to push yourself.  Where else can you do this than by going to a place where there are learners and pushers?

It’s going to be a great three days.
