doug — off the record

just a place to share some thoughts

Update now

File this bit of advice under “public service” from this blog!

There’s a new update to the macOS operating system.  It’s for version 10.13 or High Sierra.

I read about it this morning in this post from Sophos.

Crazy but true – Apple’s “show hint” button reveals your actual password

It’s an interesting read (and a bit technical) and the wisdom is at the bottom of the document.

The technical details from Apple is available here.

While it’s always a good idea to apply patches when they become available, this is particularly good advice if you fall into one of the cases described in the Sophos article.

Just a heads up.  It’s not a small upgrade and will require a reboot of your computer.  But, this small inconvenience will make your computer safer.
