Make A Difference – Professional Development Day

Perhaps almost hidden in last week’s “This Week in Ontario Edublogs” post was reference to an upcoming professional learning event – M.A.D P.D..  It comes under the branding of Peter Cameron’s M.A.D. ideas.

This time, it’s a full day of online professional learning.

We all know the challenges of getting away to face-to-face conferences.  There’s the time away from family and the classroom, the cost to travel, the cost to register, the cost to stay at a hotel, etc.  While there are lots of benefits from being in the same place at the same time, there still are those costs.

Going online still gives you the same place, same time opportunity and, if someone remembers to hit “record”, you can visit and re-visit an interesting session or take in two that happen during the same timeslot, albeit later.

Here’s what Peter has in mind.

This conference has one goal: to make a difference for you and the students you teach!  On May 7th 2017 from 8am-8pm EST educators from around the world will be sharing  tools, tips, resources and ideas that have proven to be game changers in their classrooms.  This exciting day of sharing and learning will occur without travel or cost to you and can be enjoyed directly from the comfort of your home! So put on your slippers, pour a cup of coffee and join us anytime!  Presentations will occur via YouTube Live on May 7th 2017 from 8am-8pm EST. Educators, preservice teachers and all other interested parties are welcome! Check our our incredible line up of 70+ presenters!

Of course, I had to check out this “incredible list“.

I was impressed with the collection.  Often, when you see a conference listing, there are the “usual suspects”.  In this case, I was presented with a great collection of known friends but also an even bigger number of new names.  The topics really run the gamut of things important to educators.

I would encourage you to take a look through the list.  You’re going to find topics that you’re passionate about and others you might just have an introductory curiosity.  You may just want to plan some time that day to join the live broadcast on YouTube Live.

And, as Peter says, put on your slippers and enjoy.  Or, if you’re so inclined, this would be a great opportunity to snag a couple of friends and test out #CoffeeEDU or #PubPD.
