It’s Official Now

I did a lot of driving yesterday.  I made it to Oakville and got there a little early.  That’s never a problem as a drive up and down Lakeshore takes you past some incredible houses.  And, of course, you have to drive by Glen Abbey – this was the first time I’d seen it in winter.

Oh, and then I ended up at Appleby College for the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario’s Annual General Meeting.  Lots of business and a new board confirmed but importantly to me was the fact that Cyndie Jacobs and I were confirmed as co-chairs for the 2013 ECOO Conference.  This is THE conference in the province for educators interested in educational technology.

When Cyndie and I agreed to take on this task, there were a couple of things that needed attention.  First, it was obvious that ECOO had outgrown the location that had been the home for the conference for the past few years.  Secondly, both Cyndie and I agreed that we didn’t want a cookie cutter template for the event.  We wanted the freedom to try new things.  To date, the conference planning committee of 13 (we’re not superstitious) has met twice to lay down the basics for the conference.  A great deal has been planned with lots more between now and the conference.

At this time, Cyndie and I would like to extend an invitation to those in education in Ontario and western New York to plan to attend the 2013 ECOO Conference.

Scotiabank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls Ontario

Further details will be rolled out at the Conference website http://www.bringittogether.ca over the next while.  Check in often for the latest.  Look for an exciting event with new partnerships, expanded exhibition hall, motivating keynote speakers, incredible sessions led by Ontario educators, evening social events, and more.  Niagara Falls promises to be more than a conference; it’s also a destination.  You may all wish to bring your significant other for the conference and stay for the weekend.

What would a great conference be without great presentations and great presenters?  Follow this link to complete a Call for Proposals.  If you’re involved in a TLLP project, an innovative use of technology in your classroom, doing some action research, got a great idea to share, or anything that would appeal to computer using educators, consider submitting a proposal.  This is the perfect opportunity to share your learning with the province.  The Call for Proposals is now open and will close on April 19.

ECOO is a voluntary organization for teachers, by teachers.  The breadth and scope of workshops make it the perfect destination for self-directed professional development.

Please put the dates in your calendar and plan to join Cyndie, me, and hundreds of other educators at this year’s event.

  1. Thanks for getting this out so quickly Partner! As @aforgrave and I chatted yesterday about the website, the logo, the sessions, the social activities and the many new things for #ecoo13 , I wondered how long it would take to have it posted – and here it is!!

    Simply. Awesome.
    Thanx!

    1. I formulated what I wanted to say on the drive home and then it was just a matter of keying it. There would have been more but someone phoned me.
