Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re watching the pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-game football show. Chris Berman is a marathon anchor! Many of us watch it for the football. Yet, there are some that watch it for commercials.
The Super Bowl is the place for advertisers to spend the most for commercials and so they want to make them good. Not only are they good, but they are incredible original and innovative. The Google Commercial was amazing and actually turned into a product that anyone can create their own Google Search Story. It’s a terrific and easy way to create your own movie. It’s been a favourite activity in workshops and classrooms ever since.
The commercials themselves are used in classrooms starting the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday. Crafty teachers will use it as part of media literacy lessons. My favourite place to watch the commercials is now located here. Not only can you see the 2012 commercials but you can turn back time and relive your favourite commercials from years gone by. After all, who can forget the Apple commercial from 1984 or the Bud Bowl.
Of course, Canadians who rely on cable or satellite are commercially challenged. The American broadcast are replaced by the Canadian broadcast. So, if you turn on NBC, you’ll actually get the CTV broadcast. But, don’t fear. This year instead of just the regular run of the mill commercials, there’s a special Budweiser Flash mob commercial – just for Canadian television. (or Americans who can find it on the internet or this blog.
I suppose the nice thing about the commercials when all is said and done, is that there’s a little something for everyone. Even if you don’t like football, you can always watch the commercials.
