Management by walking around (MBWA) is a concept realized in the 1970s and popularized by Tom Peters and Robert Waterman in the ’80s. A 2008 article in “The Economist” described MBWA this way: “Managers consistently reserving time to walk through their departments and/or to be available for impromptu discussions.” (MBWA frequently goes together with an open-door management policy.)
