Follow Friday – QR Style

Happy Follow Friday…I’d like to acknowledge the Active Ontario Educators with a little promotion to the great content that you’re providing other educators.  I’m going to use the link in your Twitter profile below and will create a QR code that will take folks to your blog/website/whatever.

I’m still wrestling with the place for QR Codes.  Surely, they are a quick and easy way to distribute information to those with portable devices, cameras, and appropriate software.  But, what about those who are just plain surfing their way to your website using a browser and traditional computer?  In its simplest form, it seems to me that a QR Code is relatively limited in scope.  But, if you think about the maturity that’s come to webpages, it does offer a solution.

Suggestions for making a website accessible can be read at this W3C resource.  Excellent tips like the appropriate use of the ALT tag make sites appropriate for screen readers.  Why couldn’t this also be applied to a code that’s inserted.  And, for those visiting your resource via traditional browser, make the QR Code itself a button that, when clicked, takes you to the same resource that is included in the information embedded?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
