On the heels of the blog post that I made the other day comes this resource.
I had closed my entry with a note that we rely on everyone to do their very best at all times. Remember to “Autograph your work with excellence.”
In this entry, Lifehacker advises that there are 6 words to drop from your resume. According to the articles, these words are:
- Responsible for
- Experienced
- Excellent written communication skills
- Team player
- Detail oriented
- Successful
On first blush, this seems like bad advice. After all, who wouldn’t want someone with the above attributes?
Digging deeper, the article explains why and the reason and the suggested replacement really help you autograph your resume with excellence. It is such a simple concept and yet could make all the difference in the world.
I would encourage everyone to check it out. If you’re teaching resume creation in your class, it’s a source for great inspiration.
