One of life’s great joys when you stay at a hotel is the complimentary newspaper. It’s not a luxury that we have at home so I make the most of it when I can.
I’m staying in Toronto for a couple of nights. It was a long drive after a long day and so I did turn on the television before hitting the sack last night to get a sense of how the election results were rolling in. Heard a bit about the power outage and alternative plans to let everyone have their vote and then Pete Mansbridge prediction of another Conservative minority government. So, it’s off to bed.
In the morning, up and at ‘em and my first move is to get the newspaper from the floor outside the hotel room. Ah, The Globe and Mail.
I’m flipping through and there’s a number of pictures of the candidates awaiting the results. Then, what I’m really looking for. A very colourful breakdown by province of where the candidates were elected. Interesting how the parties have their traditional strong areas.
Then it dawned on me. With all of the coverage and all of the statistics and all of the pictures, there was no picture of Prime Minister Harper in the entire first section. Can’t be.
Finally, looking forward and back, I do see a small image of the Prime Minister taken during the leaders’ debate.
But, no traditional winning picture. Weird.
Don’t you think?
