Waiting on Twitter

Normally, when I post to this blog, it’s on a somewhat fun note.

This morning, a tweet came through that hit me in a profound manner and I can’t shake it.

This summer, I became “friends” with Minhaaj Rehman.  Minhaaj is an educator in Pakistan and we had an interesting Skype conversation this summer, a chat when the internet connection wasn’t the greatest and I’m happy to say that Minhaaj is a friend on both Facebook and Twitter.

In our communications, he comes across as a very serious young man with a passion to teach.  Recently, he moved from Lahore to Islamabad to teach and proudly let all of his friends know through a Twitter.

We have communications back and forth periodically and, this morning, I congratulated him on his election to the Wikieducator’s First Advisory Council.

A moment later, he posted this:  “severe bomb blast about 5 blocks from my place. Marriot hotel is history :(

I immediately flipped to CBC and CNN on television and the web and there was nothing reported.

But, the reports did come in throughout the day.

The video and the news reports tell the story of the massive blast that hit the Marriott as a result of a suicide bomber.

We talk about Twitter and Personal Learning Networks and so much more.  We learn, we have fun (I sent a Tweet from the tip of Point Pelee this afternoon, for example), we communicate and we grow as a result.

Since the post, there has been no word from Minhaaj.

Now, there’s another thing that we do on Twitter.

We wait.
