8 Weeks to Web 2.0

You never know how far things can reach.

I created “8 Weeks to Web 2.0″ as a collection of things that I figured that teachers needed to get in touch with to bring them up to speed with some of the Read/Write web concepts. It was spread over 8 weeks to go along with summer vacation and since there’s no attendance or check-in, you can do it at your own pace.

I advertised it to our teachers on our FirstClass system, made reference to it in a blog post, and threw it out twice on Twitter. I didn’t figure that the Twitter or Blog readers would be all that interested but was hoping for some clicking from Greater Essex County teachers.

What I didn’t expect was the amount of traffic that has come in. Like so many things, there’s so much to read, people don’t tend to comment. However, with tracking tools, I can see people coming from all over the globe and that they’re actually spending some time on the pages rather than just clicking through to head somewhere else. Neat.

It was an interesting venture just to incorporate different types of media and web resources into the document. For our teachers, I had to look for non-YouTube resources since YouTube is blocked at out schools. There are TeacherTube and other resources though.

It’s encouraging to see that people are interested in this content and this format. It makes it easier to think that I’ll do it again.
